August 21, 2022 Ode to the Independent Bookstore

My partner Dixie and went birding in Rankin Bottoms today. Highlights included: 5 Prothonotary warblers, a juvenile black winged night heron, and 2 green herons fighting for territory. After our birding, we drove to White Pine, TN to visit the White Pine bookstore. This little independent place looked to be the last thing anchoring Main Street, and was totally delightful. Featuring a great selection of used books, it also had an impressive selection of used puzzles and (randomly) Beanie Babies. In a town with a mean income of $37,700, it warmed my heart to see this store was still surviving. The owner was super nice and said they’d been in their current location for 8 years. While we were there, several other customers came it. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop in and support them. As you can see from the photo, they have a whole section devoted to cozies!
